The birth of the Avengers in a bibliophile masterpiece, featuring rarely seen drawings and a historic foreword by Kevin Feige.
This collectible volume, limited to 1,000 copies, is dedicated to the first adventures of the Avengers from 1963 to 1965. The meticulously produced XXL volume contains the first 20 issues of the series in chronological order, including the legendary battles against Loki, Enchantress, Kang, and Baron Zemo. All stories were photographically reproduced in their original size and restored using the latest technology to faithfully recreate the visual quality of the period around 1960.
Marvel's founding father, Stan Lee, and artist Jack Kirby brought together icons such as Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Ant-Man, and The Wasp for the first time for this groundbreaking project. Captain America, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch later followed. About the artists:
Jack Kirby (1917–1994) was one of the most prolific and influential comic artists of the 20th century. He shaped the visual appearance of countless Marvel characters, including Captain America, the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and Thor, and is considered the father of the dynamic comic panel. His visual style, characterized by powerful compositions and kinetic energy, continues to influence generations of artists to this day.
Stan Lee (1922–2018) revolutionized the world of comics as an author, editor, and publisher. Together with Jack Kirby and other visionaries, he created a complex superhero universe that featured heroes with human weaknesses and moral depth. His work contributed significantly to the cultural importance of comics, from magazine pages to Hollywood screens.
Kurt Busiek, award-winning comic author and historian, wrote the essay that accompanies this volume. With his extensive knowledge of comic history and his sense of narrative depth, he connects the stories of the early Avengers with the broader myths of the Marvel Universe. Busiek is known for series such as Astro City and Marvels.
The iconography of Marvel at its best: a monumental collector's item for comic fans, nostalgic readers, and design lovers alike.
